I Love the ABC’s!

When my son was days old my husband and I discovered
we did not know ANY children’s lullabies.
We both grew up in alcoholic families;
lullabies were NOT part of that equation.
We talked for hours about what song lyrics we might both know besides the Stones “Satisfaction”,
Jimmy Buffett’s “Wasted Away in Margaritaville”
or the Ramones, “I Wanna Be Sedated.”
The ABC song!
We sang the ABC song to our son  countless times over the next few years.
We added Row Row Row Your Boat somewhere along the way.
The ABC song was the only way to calm our son if we were unable to cuddle him.
Car rides to the family farm land would have been pure Hell for all involved
without the ABC Song.
I loved the alphabet before I became a mother.
I loved it even more once my son was born.
Truth be told, I loved everything more after the birth of my son.
Thank you, Debbie @ Two Minutes of Grace for sharing the ABC Award with me!  I believe the original instructions are: Add the logo to your site, pass it on to other bloggers, and then use the alphabet to make a list of words describing yourself so that your readers will learn more about you.
I am passing the ABC Award onto the following Blogs.
I look forward to learning more about each of these amazing people!
Debbie  was very clever in using Books she has loved, Mel used films that touched her.
That made this tricky.
I have collected quotations since I was in Jr. High.
Here are some of my favorites.
I sometimes used the  first letter of the quote as my guide,
sometimes the author’s name.
THIS WAS FUN!  Thank you Debbie!

A  –  Ask anyone committed to Marxist analysis how many angels on the head of a pin, and you will be asked in return to never mind the angels, tell me who controls the production of pins.

Joan Didion

B   –  Hungry people cannot be good at learning or producing anything, except perhaps violence.

Pearl Bailey

C  –  Children are educated by what the grown-up is and not by his talk.

Carl Jung

D –  There is no need for temples, no need for complicated philosophies. My brain and my heart are my temples;

my philosophy is kindness.

Dalai Lama

E  –  I know not with what weapons World War III will be fought, but World War IV will be fought with sticks and stones.

Albert Einstein

F –   Don’t patronize the chain bookstores. Every time I see some author scheduled to read and sign his books at a chain bookstore, I feel like telling him he’s stabbing the independent bookstores in the back.

Lawrence Ferlinghetti

G  –  I don’t care if I fall as long as someone else picks up my gun and keeps on shooting.

Che Guevera

H  –  A truly good book teaches me better than to read it. I must soon lay it down, and commence living on its hint. What I began by reading, I must finish by acting.

Henry David Thoreau

I   –  I believe in the fundamental truth of all great religions of the world.

 Mahatma Gandhi

J  –  What I’m getting at is, you know, if we really want to get serious about helping all the people living in the street and getting people jobs, we could just hire half the people in the country to spy on the other half.

Jello Biafra

K  –  The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort and convenience, but where he stands at times of challenge and controversy.

Martin Luther King, Jr.

L  –  Your silence will not protect you.

Audre Lord

M –   I am not afraid of the pen, or the scaffold, or the sword. I will tell the truth wherever I please.

Mother Jones

N  –  No one ever told me that grief felt so like fear.

C. S. Lewis

O –  One looks back with appreciation to the brilliant teachers, but with gratitude to those who touched our human feelings. The curriculum is so much necessary raw material, but warmth is the vital element for the growing plant and for the soul of the child.

Carl Jung

P  –  In art and dream may you proceed with abandon. In life may you proceed with balance and stealth.

Patti Smith

Q  –  Think for yourself and QUESTION authority.

Timothy Leary

R  –  Rightful liberty is unobstructed action according to our will within limits drawn around us by the equal rights of others. I do not add ‘within the limits of the law’ because law is often but the tyrant’s will, and always so when it violates the rights of the individual.

Thomas Jefferson

S  –  We have to dare to be ourselves, however frightening or strange that self may prove to be.

May Sarton

T –  You can turn your back on a person, but never turn your back on a drug, especially when its waving a razor sharp hunting knife in your eye.

Hunter S. Thompson

U  –  This is what I learned: that everybody is talented, original and has something important to say.

 Brenda Ueland

V  –  Once you learn to quit, it becomes a habit.

Vince Lombardi

W  –  What I’m getting at is, you know, if we really want to get serious about helping all the people living in the street and getting people jobs, we could just hire half the people in the country to spy on the other half.

Jello Biafra

X  –   I’m for truth, no matter who tells it. I’m for justice, no matter who it’s for or against.

Malcolm X

Y  –  You’re not supposed to be so blind with patriotism that you can’t face reality. Wrong is wrong, no matter who says it.

Malcolm X

Z  –  If you want to get laid, go to college. If you want an education, go to the library.

Frank Zappa

PEACE,   Jen
